It's really confusing at first until you work to get through it and it finally makes sense. You have to read and re-read the instructions several times to understand how to play. It takes some getting used to but my 9-year old said he liked it. The robo-brontosaurus piece falls over and becomes unbalanced, which is super annoying. I only bought it cause my son loves the Dog Man books.

Best part of the game was possibly the assembly. It does take some assembly before starting but it's easy enough that my kids put it together - win/win. But then we played. It doesn't make much sense. You can move forward or backward, the goal being to beat the monster, but we weren't sure how to do that. It's a nicely built game with sturdy pieces and a long board. The board game and the pieces are sturdy. That is the biggest compliment that I can give to this game. Outside of that, it was a total disappointment. The makers capitalized off of the popularity of the book series in order to entice buyers towards this game. Visually it is cumbersome. The directions aren't the usual pamphlet. Instead, they are a part od the inside of the box. They partially wrap around, making some words cut off. That isn't the biggest deal though. The objective is to first defeat the monster before it makes it to the end and then get back to Dog man's house. It is a joint effort so everyone wins or loses together. We had to keep referring to the directions to see what was supposed to happen next. Even with all of the references to the directions, the game was over super quickly. It was quite anticlimactic. I didn't enjoy the game and neither did my son. He is 6 years old and recently got into Dogman so he was really excited about playing the game, but he was very confused throughout and disappointed at the end. We love playinf board games and have quite the collection, but I can't see this one getting another chance. We will be donating it to Goodwill.
